Be like Water, My Friend

This is the retreat mode of combat. By retreat, it is not meant that the exponent is defeated. It means that when the opponent is stronger or charging you with a stronger force, you may need to move backwards to absorb his force, before launching a counter attack. Depending upon the degree of penetration of his charge, you may be required to retreat more & more backward as follows

EVADE DEFENSE: This is by shifting the attacked body part away from the attacking hand or foot.

SLIP IN & OUT –   To shift the head sidewards & forwards away from the attacking punch

BOB or DUCK – To shift the head downwards by bending away from the attacking punch

SNAP BACK –    To shift the head backwards by bending away from attacking punch or kick

PARRY (Deflect) DEFENSE

1 Door Defense -  To lift the Lead forearm upwards to deflect the attacking punches while simultaneously moving head backwards in Snap Back Evasion

2 Door Defense  - To lift the Both forearms upwards to deflect the attacking punches while simultaneously moving head forwards so as to be cradled and protected by the two forearms

Rear Door Defense – To step back and use the rear forearm as one door (see 1 Door)

MOVING (Move out) DEFENSE

Ld PAK – Slapping Hand (STEP & SLIDE – step back)

Ld GUM – Pushing Down Hand (SLIDE & STEP – full step back)
